What's up with women's fashion??
I think most of the Indian females will share my frustration over shopping for clothes in the US. It's the most agonizing process trying to find the best size, fit and style that also fits your budget. Being an odd size (given that Indian women are smaller in height and width than the average American) doesn't help at all. Some things that are inherent in the design of clothes in the American market make me really mad...for example...extremely plungy neck lines, extremely short waist lines (leads to involuntary flashing when you try to bend or sit), extremely thin fabric and extremely short dress lines. What's up with that?
Guys on the other hand, who don't require covering up of body parts as much as women, have full coverage everywhere. Why men's swimwear is long (till the knees) while women's swim suits barely cover the bare essentials is a big question mark for me. I don't want my business to become everybody else's business every time I go out. I am not a conservative person...but I think the clothes sold today for females are downright derogatory.
Another problem area is the sheer amount of nomenclature used for women's clothing...the clothing sections are divided according to size and fashion into junior, petite, misses, women's, large women's, etc. I invariably fit into the in-between sizes...not quite juniors and not exactly women's. The junior's section has my sizes but poses a challenge in regard to the styling. I don't want to be seen wearing t-shirts with cartoon characters on them. It's about time I grow up and graduate into adult clothing. While the women's section carries clothes that seem like a big sheet of fabric was sewn together end to end...no style what so ever.
Ever time I go shopping, more often than not I come back depressed and empty handed. As much as I enjoy shopping, I wish the trends adjust a bit to include 'decent' clothes that fit in everybody's budget as well.
